Chilled, then freaked out ....

Another week in the HK. Leading up to Chinese New Years (which is bigger than anything else). If your from the US...then rates with the Thanksgiving break there. The only differences: you chill with the family, not really a shopping deal, grad anything and everything that provides good luck to start of the new year ....oh yeah RED POCKETS. What are red pockets...you say... little evnvelopes with brand new cash in them. The idea being everytime someone wishes you happy new year (kung hei fa choi (sp?)) you give them with a pocket. Now there are suppose to be rules...but as I am considered a westerner....who knows who could be look for the dosh: kids, team mates, drivers, security guards all the single women in the office (ha ha ...shortage there)... I feel like a atm/cash machine.

Yesterday was another episode of "walk, fat boy, walk". The journey took me to Shek o Headlands. The scenic view was beautiful and the walk was a fair one. You check out my pics from there my on Flickr photos account (free), so have a look. After completing that...it was suppose to be a nice drive home....except I stepped into the Hong Kong version of Richard Petty! After about 7 near misses and a dozen efforts to ram other cars forward...I unclenched my buttocks from the seat and went inside for a shot of whiskey.

I was so sure I was going to meet my maker.

A walking fool ....

yep, my sorry butt was out walking today. Managed a lil trip around the peak and then down Old Peak Road to my place. This time, no leg shakes, a little running, some walking backwards to reduce the pressure on my knees. I think I will pass on looking for a foot massage from Happy Feet again....I really am not into S&M.

Overall weekend was good, chilled, dined and exercised most of the weekend. Found out, that I`ll be back in the USA (Tampa) to meet up with my co-workers and possibly a quick trip to Maitland. I`ll be in tow with a team member from HK, so my schedule might be pretty taken up ...with work.
Off to Malaysia for Chinese New Years and looking to make it to Europe in April....Citys and places to be determined...

Back to the living ....

Healthy again....YEAH! I just caught up on email with my friend back in Toronto...I wonder what is in the water, her kids are 5'10 and 5'11 ....yikes.

Slowly getting back into the pattern of work, but it is a fight after this vacation stuff. Lets see what happens when I come back from Chinese New Years (another 4 days off).

2006...lil exercise...lotta being sick

Well what started as a positive thing (exercise and S&M foot massages) ....sunk into a nasty cold for the better part of this week. The social bevvies were stopped and lots of sleep and staying home was in order. On Friday, the bat phone came on...asking for assistance again LKF (something about not enough people to drink?), I was about to give out the "I`m not feeln...." and I was reminded that it was Ally`s last weekend in HK, as she is moving to Chicago...for a 2 year secondement.

I pulled my act together and met up for some socials, pics and a hamburger to close of the night. A cropped pic of me n Ally is posted. Good Luck.

If you want to see more of my pictures, please click here (HERE). Now that it is Sunday, I am actually feeling a bit better, will go out and buy some music and movies, come home and chill.

Why you walking like that?

Lets just say that somebodys legs still hurt. This is a picture from the Insomnia bar in the LKF section of town. Insomnia = tourist drink fest start point. So ...Tony, why did you end up there? see below.

I managed to get a foot massage yesterday (no ....not a rub n tug) . It was in Happy Valley in a place called Happy Feet. Something about good for the mind, body and spirit. RUBBISH ! It`s just toture that you pay for. It is truly amazing what this little chinese woman was doing to ME. I haven`t needed to yelp and scream like this....EVER. At times, I was pretty sure that she had ripped skin off....and was just cleaning the bone. WTF! I can not begin to curse enough about the pain... Gees Louise! So after 50 minutes..."You want some watah to drink sir?" with a devilish little grin. (btw - loud advice from myself of "softer" went un-noticed)

Check that off the list of things done. Maybe it was just a bad day for her?

Happy New Years ...part deux

So ...after a call to France at 7am, I woke a little later refreshed and ready to start of 2006. Thanks to Jenny and Wan who actually cleaned up alot last night, so I didn`t have the horror of dishes. Nice.

Ater talking to Ben-shizzle (Americans love this kind of name calling)...I was kindly reminded that I had not made any New Years resolutions...time to think! As I wanted to be accurate with reasonable goals...here they are:

1) Pass on my well wishes to the the freeking kids upstairs for the world class...running around in the apartment (till 11pm nighty)

2) Exercise more

3) Discover more of Hong Kong ...on foot (ie: not taxi ...driving by)

4) Try not to kill myself by eating at restaurants where various seafoods are mixed to ensure I get sick

5) Travel to 2 different countries that I have not been too previously in Asia.

6) Maintain a relationship (yep girlfriend) for this year in the country I AM living in. (this is not a term, but first step with expectations for the relationship to continue).

7) Attain some real estate.

8) Spend time with my Uncle and Cousins ...to catch up (Hong Kong or ????).

...After that brainfart to come up with the list...I figured #3 was easy to get at and it would kinda cover #2. So...objective of the day...WALK from my place to Pacific Place mall, shop and then walk back up to my place.

Did I mention that I live on the Peak and at the end of "Old Peak Road". Well, after downing a smoothee...I was off. Wholy crap BATMAN...my legs were burning when I finally got to the mall. I think they even got the shakes (ie: going on strike)! Shopping was a bit slower and ugh getting back up the hill - NOT SO MUCH. Taxi! I was proud of the start, but forgot to listen the old body.

I still got the benefit of #3 as I walked in the Botanical Gardens, figured out the actual walking path to the Mall and got some different pictures of HK (hence the China 2008 figures).

...I am going to sleep well tonight.
